Farmers markets have become a key element in linking local residents with new resources for fresh and locally grown food. The public is seeking out alternatives to imported produce and reaching out to their local farmers to provide this resource. This relationship has aided local farmers markets with their rise in popularity. The USDA hosts a list of 4,385 farmers markets currently operating in the United States.
Farmers markets also aid the small to medium-size farmer to supplement his income and get his products directly to consumers. These markets give the community access to locally grown, farm-fresh produce and the opportunity to personally interact with the farmer who grows the produce. Farmers markets help to promote nutrition education, wholesome eating habits, and better food preparation, as well as boosting the community’s economy.
Helping give the local farmer an outlet to sell their produce and to interact with the community is one of the goals of El Dorado County Farm Trails. So it was only natural that they sponsor and start local farmers markets in the area. Currently EDC Farm Trails sponsors two farmers markets.
So on behalf of EDC Farm Trails I invite you stop by one of our markets and I dare you not to get addicted to the farm fresh products that are available there.
