“Tartan Quilt” – O’Halloran Apple Trail Ranch

“Tartan Quilt” O’Halloran Apple Trail Ranch | Farm Trails El Dorado County

No surprise that this quilt design is called Tartan. (Scottish-Gaelic: breacan is a pattern particularly associated with Scotland.) Scottish kilts almost always have tartan patterns. Tartan is often called plaid in North America, in Scotland, a plaid is a tartan cloth slung over the shoulder as a kilt accessory. The quilt was painted by Jane Harris. The O’Halloran family are Scottish, however, the ranch is American as apple pie: They have varieties of apples, pears, U-Pick pumpkins and winter squash, three full acres of Christmas trees, apple cider, applesauce, apple butter, fresh fruit, a grassy picnic area, and a nature trail if you want a leisurely stroll. Don’t forget to view an apple tree that’s documented to be a graft from an original Johnny Appleseed tree!
